Best Hyrox Socks for Women: Fit, Sizing & Race-Day Tips
Share
Eight kilometres of running. Eight stations. A sled that weighs more than you do. The last thing you want to be thinking about at the wall balls is your socks, and that's exactly why you should sort them before race day. This guide covers the best socks for women doing Hyrox: what actually matters, what the 26/27 rulebook says, the Women's Open and Pro weights, and the pairs we'd race in.
Just want the socks? Our gym and Hyrox socks come in S/M (UK 3–7) and M/L (UK 8–12), built for the sled, the lunges and everything in between.
The short answer
Wear a crew-length sock with a cushioned sole, a reinforced heel and toe, and a cuff that stays up. Make sure it fits your actual shoe size, not your partner's. Test it in training first. Nothing new on race day, and that includes socks. (For the full kit rundown for any racer, see our guide to the best socks for Hyrox.)
You don't need a "women's" sock. Hyrox is hard on everyone's feet in the same way. What matters is fit, which mostly comes down to picking the right size. Our S/M fits UK 3–7, which covers most women's shoe sizes, and M/L fits UK 8–12.
Women's Hyrox divisions and weights (26/27 season)
Every Hyrox race is the same format: a 1km run, then a station, repeated eight times for 8km of running in total. The running and most distances are identical across divisions. The weights change. Here's what the official 26/27 singles rulebook sets for women:
| Station | Women's Open | Women's Pro |
|---|---|---|
| 1. SkiErg | 1,000m | 1,000m |
| 2. Sled push (50m) | 102kg incl. sled | 152kg incl. sled |
| 3. Sled pull (50m) | 78kg incl. sled | 103kg incl. sled |
| 4. Burpee broad jumps | 80m | 80m |
| 5. Rowing | 1,000m | 1,000m |
| 6. Farmers carry (200m) | 2 × 16kg | 2 × 24kg |
| 7. Sandbag lunges (100m) | 10kg | 20kg |
| 8. Wall balls | 100 reps, 4kg, 2.70m target | 100 reps, 6kg, 2.70m target |
Women's Pro uses the same loads as Men's Open at every weighted station. Weights can change between seasons, so always check the current rulebook for your race.
What Hyrox does to your feet, station by station
Hyrox isn't a running race with some gym bits. Your feet get hit in a different way at almost every station, and that's why sock choice matters more than it does for a 10K.
The running
Eight 1km laps on a hard indoor floor, with lots of tight turns. Your feet are already hot and sweaty from the stations when you start each lap. This is where blisters start: heat, moisture and friction, repeated eight times. A sock that holds its shape and doesn't bunch under the arch is the fix.
Sled push and sled pull
The push drives your weight into the balls of your feet and forefoot for 50 metres. The pull has you digging your heels in and walking backwards. That's a lot of forefoot and heel pressure on a surface with a lot of grip. A reinforced heel and toe is exactly what these two stations test.
Burpee broad jumps
Eighty metres of jumping, landing and dropping to the floor. Every landing slams your foot forward inside the shoe. If your sock slides, your toes take the hit. Snug fit matters most here.
Farmers carry and sandbag lunges
Both are loaded walking. The carry is 200 metres with two kettlebells. The lunges are 100 metres with a sandbag, and your trailing knee has to touch the floor every rep. The lunges are brutal on legs but fairly kind to feet. The carry is long enough that a sagging cuff will drive you mad.
Wall balls
The last station, when you're at your most tired. Here's the useful bit: the rulebook says you must wear closed-toe shoes at all times except at the wall ball station, where you're allowed to take your shoes off. Some racers do. If you're one of them, your socks are suddenly your footwear. You want grip, a sock that won't twist, and, frankly, one you don't mind a room full of people seeing.
What makes a good Hyrox sock
- Crew length. Covers your ankle and lower shin, stays put through the lunges and sled work, and gives you something between you and the equipment.
- Cushioned sole. A terry sole takes the edge off 8km of hard indoor floor and 80 metres of burpee landings.
- Reinforced heel and toe. The sled push and pull concentrate pressure at the front and back of your foot. That's where cheap socks wear through first.
- A ribbed body that holds its shape. If the sock bunches under the arch or slides into your shoe by the SkiErg, it'll rub by the rowing.
- Not cotton. Cotton holds sweat. Synthetic blends dry faster and hold their shape better when your feet are hot.
- The right size. Too big wrinkles and rubs. Too small pulls on your toes. Get it right and most of the problems above go away.
Every Venture gym sock has a soft terry sole, a reinforced heel and toe and a ribbed body that holds its shape. They're a polyester and spandex blend that stretches, holds its fit and washes at 40°C.
Crew socks or no-show socks for Hyrox?
Plenty of racers wear no-shows, and if they work for you in training, fine. Crew socks make more sense for most women for a few reasons:
- They don't slip. No-shows are famous for sliding down under the heel mid-run. That's a guaranteed blister by lap five.
- They protect your shins and ankles from the sled, kettlebells and the floor during burpees.
- They're easier to find in a race photo. Hyrox photographers are everywhere. Bold socks are how your mates spot you in the gallery.
Sizing: getting the fit right
Most sock problems in Hyrox are really fit problems. Venture sizing is simple:
| Size | UK shoe | EU shoe | US shoe |
|---|---|---|---|
| S/M | 3–7 | 36–40 | 4–8 |
| M/L | 8–12 | 41–45 | 9–13 |
If you're a UK 7 or 8 and between the two, think about how you like them. S/M sits snugger for less movement in the shoe. M/L gives a roomier, taller crew. For racing, snug usually wins.
Our picks for women's Hyrox
Every design in our gym range is unisex. These are the ones that feel most at home at a Hyrox start line:
- F Burpees: says what every racer thinks about 80 metres of burpee broad jumps.
- Fuck Box Jumps V2: the sequel to one of our all-time favourites. There are no box jumps at Hyrox, but you'll have done plenty in training.
- Coffee Poo Snatch V2: the race-morning routine, on your feet.
- Death Grip: for the farmers carry, when your forearms are on fire and there's still 100 metres to go.
- Old Girl Lifter: a tribute to seasoned lifters who prove age is just a number. Perfect for the older age groups, which Hyrox now runs right up to 85–89.
- Pass Out: for the wall balls, honestly.
- Legless Rope Climb: for the CrossFitters crossing over.
Racing doubles or relay with friends? The Training Days Box puts three gym designs in one box. Split it between the team or keep a pair for every training day.
Race-day sock checklist
- Wear the pair you've trained in. Race day is not the day to try a new sock.
- Pack a spare pair in your bag-drop bag. Warm-up areas get sweaty, and dry socks at the start line feel great.
- Pull them up properly before the start. A cuff folded over at the ankle can rub on lap one.
- Check for seams across your toes before you lace up.
- Decide in training if you'll go shoes-off at the wall balls. If so, practise it in the socks you'll race in.
- Bring a fresh pair for afterwards. Future you will be very grateful.
Racing doubles or relay?
Hyrox Doubles and Team Relay are how a lot of women get into the sport, and they're a different experience on your feet. In doubles you run every lap together but split the station work, so you get short rests between efforts. The stop-start pace means your feet cool and then heat up again, which is exactly when a sock that's slipped starts to rub. In a relay each racer does fewer laps but at a much higher intensity, so a snug fit matters even more.
The fun part: matching socks. A team in matching loud socks is easy to spot in the crowd, looks brilliant in the finish-line photo and gives the spectators something to shout about. Pick one design for the whole team and make it part of the plan.
The rest of your race-day kit, quickly
- Shoes: a stable trainer with decent grip. Very soft, bouncy running shoes can feel unstable on the sled.
- Shorts or leggings with pockets are handy for gels, and leggings help on the lunges if you want knee cover.
- Gloves (not grips) are allowed by the rulebook if you want them for the sled pull rope and farmers carry.
- A top you can move in, because burpee broad jumps are no place for anything baggy.
Training socks vs race socks
You'll do far more training sessions than races, so your training socks take most of the wear. Rotate a few pairs so none of them get worn thin, and keep your best, freshest pair for race day. Wash them inside out at 40°C and skip the tumble dryer. They'll hold their shape and cushioning for longer.

FAQ: Hyrox socks for women
What are the best socks for women doing Hyrox?
Crew-length socks with a cushioned sole, a reinforced heel and toe, and a cuff that stays up, in the correct size for your shoe. You don't need a women's-specific sock. Fit matters far more than the label.
Should I wear crew or no-show socks for Hyrox?
Crew socks are the safer choice. They don't slip under the heel during the runs, and they protect your shins and ankles on the sled, farmers carry and burpees. No-shows work for some racers, but test them properly in training first.
What size socks should women get?
Venture S/M fits UK 3–7 (EU 36–40) and M/L fits UK 8–12 (EU 41–45). Most women will be S/M. If you're between sizes, S/M sits snugger, which usually suits racing.
What are the Women's Open Hyrox weights?
For the 26/27 season: sled push 102kg including the sled, sled pull 78kg including the sled, farmers carry 2 × 16kg, sandbag lunges 10kg, and 100 wall balls at 4kg to a 2.70m target. The SkiErg and row are 1,000m each and burpee broad jumps are 80m.
What are the Women's Pro Hyrox weights?
Women's Pro matches Men's Open at every weighted station: sled push 152kg, sled pull 103kg, farmers carry 2 × 24kg, sandbag 20kg, and 100 wall balls at 6kg to a 2.70m target.
Can you take your shoes off in Hyrox?
Only at the wall ball station. The 26/27 rulebook requires closed-toe shoes at all times except there, where racers may remove their shoes to complete the wall balls.
How do I stop blisters in Hyrox?
Wear socks that fit and don't bunch, that aren't cotton, and that you've already trained in. Pull them up properly before the start and keep your shoes laced snugly so your foot doesn't slide on the burpee landings.
Are compression socks good for Hyrox?
Some racers like them, especially for recovery. They're a personal preference rather than a must-have. If you want to try them, do it in training, not on race day.
Should I bring spare socks to Hyrox?
Yes: one pair for the warm-up if it gets sweaty, and one for after the race.
Sort your socks, then go and break your PB
You've done the running, the sled work and more wall balls than anyone should. Don't let a £12 bit of kit be the thing that slows you down. Pick a pair that fits, train in it and race in it. Shop gym and Hyrox socks.
